VSCO cam

Visual Supply Company makes incredible "film" presets for Lightroom and Camera Raw. I've been eying them for a while, but buying them would require a new version of Lightroom--and let's face it, I'm a poor college student. ;) VSCO released an app this week that emulates the look of film. Granted, we already have Instagram and Hipstamatic, but those filters can be too over-the-top sometimes. VSCO's filters are much more subtle. Basically, I've fallen in love with them.

Sometimes, I wear hats.

Good news...one week of school left!
Bad news...finals.
Good news...I'm over the flu!
Bad news...no legitimate excuse to lay in bed.

I hope all y'all have a lovely week. :)

i'm still alive but i'm barely breathing

Photobucket

Okay, my title is a little too dramatic. I did, however, come down with something very flu-like yesterday. It feels like the flu, but I haven't been able to get into a real doctor to find out for certain. I went to a minute-clinic but all they could do was a strep test and tell me to rest and drink fluids.

Which is really all I can do, anyway. My body aches terribly, my throat burns, my head is pounding and I feel like I might collapse. I was supposed to play piano in chapel today. Obviously, that didn't happen. Did I mention finals start tomorrow? Yeah.

But! I'm really not as negative about all of this as I sound. My friends and family have been so encouraging and faithful to pray for me. They truly are the best! I wish they could take my finals for me. :)

I'm off to sleep the rest of the day away!

incomplete poems and cold sundays

Photobucket

Reading: Cry, the Beloved Country for World Lit. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. The themes, characters, and plot are great, I'm just not used to the writing style.

Listening: Deas Vail's self-tilted album. It's wonderful. It's one of those albums that complete describes my situation in life right now. Go listen to it right now. Also, yesterday was Record Store Day! I got Mae's The Everglow and a Flogging Molly 7".

Eating: Cinnamon-sugar pita chips. They're delicious.

Writing: Poems. I've decided that I'm really not a poet. I do much better with prose. Regardless, things pop into my head from time to time, and I've a tendency to write them down.

All my friends are sinking
Deep to their watery graves.
I’m on dry land, pleading,
But they think I’m the one to save.

What do you do when reason abandons you?
What happens next? Only dead men know,
With their dead regrets.

So yes. It's been a lovely weekend full of friends and food. All my family has been out of town, and I'm ready to see them. Only two weeks left of my sophomore year of college. Wizard of Oz is over, and paper season is nearly done. I'm down to finals!

Some friends and I went downtown on Saturday night. Downtown Nashville is such an interesting place. You can always spot the tourists because they're usually wearing cowboy hats and boots. Ha! We went to Demos', which seriously has the best food...ever. If you're ever in Nashville, you have to go. We went to Bicentennial Park to take a few pictures, too. Everyone thought we were going to prom. Awkward! As a side note, I was totally a 9th wheel. Baha.

I'm off to bed. It's a busy week! It's production week for The Wizard of Oz. We have two performances Thursday and one Friday. I'm super excited!

As Cities Burn

Tonight, it's like I was sophomore in high school again.

Photobucket

I listened to As Cities Burn a lot the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school. I was dealing with a lot, and their lyrics pierced and uplifted my heart at the same time. Their first album, Son I Loved You at Your Darkest was based on a lot of Scripture. I didn't listen to it as much as I did Come Now Sleep, their second album. Sadly, they disbanded in 2009 after releasing Hell or High Water.

You can imagne how surprised I was when I heard that As Cities Burn would be playing a show in Nashville. Turns out...they're getting back together. Tonight was so strange...seeing a band live that I thought had disbanded for good. So many people wanted to see them that they ended up having three shows this weekend. It was fantastic. Photobucket

These were taken with my 50mm lens, if that gives you a good idea of how close I was to the stage. (In fact, I was standing nearly at the back of the venue. That's how small it was.)

what i wore- saturday at home

It's story time, folks.

So, first of all, my dad moved to Nashville a few months ago, taking on one of the VP positions at my school. (That bit of info isn't really pertinent to this story. I'm just a proud daughter.) So, I've been going home on weekends to do laundry and be an introvert without any interruptions. Fun fact: I'm really lazy sometimes, so I never take clothes home to wear. Just laundry. I'm always hoping there will be something hiding in my nearly empty drawers that I can wear that's clean. (Because yes, my room is not unpacked yet.) Most of the time, I'm lucky if my clothes match. This Saturday the unthinkable happened...I actually looked, in my opinion, cute.

So I went out behind my dad's apartment complex and took pictures. I got lots of strange looks from dog walkers. Excuse me sir, you are the one prancing around with an animal on a string. I am not the weird one in this situation.

the only one

Photobucket

I have the best family. Truly, I do.

Photobucket

I thank God for allowing me to grow up in a Christian home. Being a preacher's kid wasn't easy, not in the slightest. My family has faced earth-shattering hardships, but God has given us strength, and He's held us together. We've lost those we love and gained new faces along the way. I'm so blessed to have these incredible people as my role models, my friends, and most importantly, my family.

We had a great time at my sister's today for Easter. All that was missing was my brother, who we haven't convinced to move to Nashville yet. :)
